Dr. Bayerová is a distinguished conservation and heritage scientist whose professional life spans more than four decades. Trained originally as a chemist, she began her career at the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic before joining the Faculty of Restoration at the University of Pardubice. In 2000, she became Senior Lecturer and Head of the Chemical Laboratory at the Institute of Conservation at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where she also completed her PhD and obtained her Docent qualification.
Specialising in the technical examination of paintings and polychromy, Dr. Bayerová has led and contributed to numerous national and international research and restoration projects across Europe and Asia. Her work ranges from the study of ancient European polychrome sculpture to the investigation of Himalayan wall paintings, including her doctoral research on the Buddhist temple complex in Nako in the Western Himalayas. Her expertise, precision, and scientific rigor have set high standards in the field and strengthened the bridge between science and conservation practice.
Equally remarkable has been her dedication to teaching and mentorship. Over more than two decades at our institute, she has shaped generations of students with patience, clarity, and genuine enthusiasm. She has not only transmitted knowledge but inspired curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep respect for cultural heritage. Through lectures, workshops, and the supervision of PhD candidates, she has played a vital role in building international capacity in conservation science.
It is difficult to imagine our institute without her daily presence. We will deeply miss her intellectual generosity, her energy, and her unwavering commitment to excellence. She has been not only a respected colleague and leader, but also a source of encouragement and inspiration to many.
While this marks the conclusion of her formal role, we are delighted that she will continue to be connected to our institute as a supervisor of PhD candidates and as an active research collaborator. Her expertise and guidance will therefore remain an invaluable part of our academic community.
As she begins this new chapter, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and warmest wishes. May retirement offer her the time and freedom to pursue long-postponed projects, personal interests, and new adventures—with the same curiosity and passion that have defined her remarkable career.
